The bridge on State Route 1012 over Codorus Creek between Manchester Township and Springettsbury Township in York County will be closed tonight from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. tomorrow morning (Wednesday, Sept. 18). SR 1012 is known locally as Emig Road in Manchester Township and as Mundis Mill Road in Springettsbury Township. The closure is necessary so that construction crews can have the necessary room to safely and properly pour concrete for half of the bridge deck. Motorists during the overnight hours will be detoured around the bridge closure by way of Mundis Race Road and Route 24.
This project to rehabilitate the bridge began last March 11 and involves half-width construction in which construction crews work on one half of the bridge while traffic uses the other half of the bridge. Traffic has been restricted to a single lane over the bridge since last March, with traffic signals controlling the direction of traffic. Half of the bridge has been completed; and since July, the contractor has been working on the other half.
PennDOT has contracted with Jay Fulkroad & Sons, Inc. of McAlisterville, Pennsylvania, to conduct the bridge rehabilitation at a cost of $1,305,134. The work includes bridge deck and parapet replacement, bridge beam bearing repair, and guiderail installation. Work under this construction contract is anticipated to be completed by early November.
Motorists are advised to be alert for tonight’s bridge closure, to obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through work zones, not only for their safety, but for the safety of the road crews.
