The events off the field were memorable, the play on the field forgettable at Lincoln Financial Field Thursday Night.   After 14 years on the sidelines for the Eagles, Andy Reid returns to Philly wearing the red colors of the Kansas City Chiefs.   His new team handles his former team 26-16 thanks to five turnovers by the Birds.    The Chiefs took care of the ball and took advantage of the extra opportunities the Eagles provided them with two interceptions and three lost fumbles.

Considering the team is adapting to an ultra fast pace on offense, the Eagles appeared physically and mentally tired playing their third game in 11 days to open the NFL season.    Bishop McDevitt’s LeSean McCoy left the first half with a leg injury but returned in the third quarter.  He bolted past the Chiefs defense for a 41-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to pull Philly to within a touchdown at 23-16.   He ended with 20 carries for 158 rushing yards.   The Chiefs sacked Michael Vick six times in the game and kept the Eagles off the scoreboard the rest of the night.

The organization retired the number 5 worn by quarterback Donovan McNabb at a halftime ceremony.   Both Reid and McNabb were given loud ovations from the home crowd.  The Eagles get some much needed rest before their next game Sunday, September 29th at Denver.
