Emergency responders are on the scene of a HAZMAT incident in Springfield Township. There is no danger to the public or community.
Responders at approximately 6 a.m. Monday morning were called to Bimax Inc., 158 Industrial Road, for a report of an airborne chemical release from two drums within the facility.
Upon arrival, responders began to evacuate businesses and residences in the area immediately around the facility as a precautionary measure. Several businesses and two residences were ultimately evacuated.
Responders also closed Commerce Drive and Industrial Road. A section of Susquehanna Trail South was also closed, but has since reopened.
One person exposed to the release was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The chemical released from the drums was later determined to be an irritant that poses no health hazards to the community.
