Folks filled the Grandstand at the York Expo Center on Saturday to see and hear a lot of revving engines at the White Rose Thunder event.
During the Flat Track races, one rider was injured. The race promoter says it was a vintage rider who hurt his neck and back in a crash; he is expected to be okay.
Vintage bikes that are used in these races do not have brakes. An ambulance is always on the scene in case of a crash, and many other safety precautions are taken as well.
“As you can see, the turns have hay bales and everything. Normally, the straight-aways, we never have any problems, but the riders wear leathers, helmets, back braces, boots, steel shoes, so they’re pretty well-equipped,” said promoter Steve Nace.
Flat Track racing continues Sunday from noon until 4 p.m.
