Folks flocked to Falmouth, Lancaster County Saturday to witness the “Running of the Goats”. The unusual event that started as a joke amongst friends more than 30 years ago has become an annual tradition for families in Falmouth. The race consists of goat owners running their furry four-legged farm friends to a finish line in the fastest time. The fashion-forward goats also competed in a fashion show.
Veterinarian and goat owner, Dr. Christina Vittoria says, “We definitely make this an every year event, it has been such a great time, it’s great for the kids. We have so many people that come up to the goats and want to pet them and get pictures. So its good to get a little of information out there about how fun goats are to own, everyone cheers for the goats, it doesn’t matter who wins, everyone enjoys themselves”.
The goats didn’t get to have all of the fun at Saturday’s event, kids took part in many fun activities including a watermelon eating contest, tootsie spit, and a bubble gum blowing competition.
Adults also took part in a unique bingo played with cow patties.
