In the Hempfield School District in Lancaster County, Farmdale Elementary is the fourth of five schools built-in the same model.
The district says the plan is keeping costs down with a geothermal heating and cooling system and energy-efficient lighting.
The highlight for students is the Distance Learning Lab where teachers use video-teleconferencing screens to connect with classrooms around the world.
“The kids have gone wild, the kids love the technology that’s available,” says superintendent Brenda Becker. “In this school we are using Apple TV and iPads in all of our classrooms, and of course, our kids just latch onto that technology it’s made us very efficient, very forward-thinking.”
