York County 911 and the York County Office of Emergency Management received numerous telephone calls late Tuesday morning regarding the activation of sirens surrounding Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station.

There is no cause for alarm. It’s unclear why the sirens sounded. There is no emergency at the plant.

If there was an emergency at the plant, the sirens would sound for three minutes. They are used to signal individuals around the plant to tune in to television or radio stations designated to release Emergency Alert System messages.
