He’s been dealing with kidney problems for years.   After some recent struggles, a family member steps in to help raise money for Dallastown High School student Sean Murphy.   A cross country meet on Tuesday is the setting for an outpouring of support.

Sean was diagnosed with a kidney disorder early in his life.  His Dad Patrick gave him one of his kidneys several years ago.  Unfortunately, it failed in the past month.   Sean was able to receive another transplant in the past week and is currently recovering.

His cousin is Nate Shaffer and he runs cross country for Central York.   Nate rallies the support of all five teams running at Tuesday’s meet at Dallastown to hold a t-shirt fundraiser to help the Murphy’s with medical bills.  In addition to the home team, they are Central York, West York, South Western and Spring Grove.

Sean was very thankful for his cousin’s efforts and overwhelming support of all five teams.

“It’s an amazing feeling that all of these people came together to raise money for my family and I after I had my kidney transplant,” Sean said.  “Just an overall awesome feeling.  This support means everything with the people buying the shirts we had made.”

“It’s really kind of a weight off your shoulders to know that so many people are out there that care enough to do something,” added Patrick Murphy.  “It’s such a relief to have him doing well and to know that this many people are out there that really care about you.”

Nate handed Sean’s mom Wendy a check for $1,900.
