New hope academy charter school will appeal the state’s decision to shut it down. Yesterday the Pennsylvania Department of Education appeal board upheld York City School board’s 2012 decision to not re-new the school’s charter. The state cited poor academic results and financial reasons for its decision. Students made their pleas for the state to keep the school open.
“ We are not dollar signs. They say be the change you wish to see in the world in wish to see people taking pride in education and caring about their neighbors, “ says Shea Passno, student at New Hope Charter Academy School
New Hope has also filed an application to keep the school open while the decision is being made. If the state denies the appeal New Hope would close in January. Teachers and parents are planning a rally to keep the school open in the next few weeks.
