An exploding red dye pack helped to shortened the career of a Lebanon City bank robbery suspect. It happened just before 1 o’clock Friday afternoon at the Northwest Bank branch along the 700 block of Cumberland Street. A man walked into the bank and handed a teller a note demanding money. The suspect showed what appeared to be a handgun but did not point it at bank employees.
The suspect got away with some cash. He was seen running east on Cumberland Street and then south toward Liberty Alley. It was there that the dye pack, hidden amount the cash, exploded. Police soon afterward caught up with the suspect in the area of 7th and Chestnut Streets.
He was identified as Louis Jones, 57, of Reading. Police recovered some of the dye stained money along Liberty Alley. Due to windy conditions it is unclear if all the dropped money was recovered. Police warn anyone who may have found any of the dye stained cash not to spend or use any of it.
Following arraignment on Robbery charges Jones was sent to Lebanon County Prison in lieu of $250,000 bail.
