A bill being proposed by an Alabama lawmaker offers a solution for stopping child molestation. It’s a controversial one, but a solution nonetheless.
Steve Hurst wants child molesters surgically castrated. In his state, there are more than 11,000 registered sex offenders. For years, lawmakers there have been working to curb sex crimes. Hurst says his solution would work.
He’s proposing that anyone convicted of committing sex crimes against children under the age of twelve be castrated before leaving prison. He adds, “they should pay for the procedure themselves.”
Hurst has pushed this bill once before, and it failed. He says he’ll continue to push the bill until it gets passed.
What do you think about his proposal?
