Hanover Borough Police say the 14 year-old girl who reported she got away from a man trying to abduct her has changed her story. After interviewing the girl again, she admitted the man did not grab her, nor did he attempt to follow her. She described the encounter as being incidental and downgraded the contact between the two as having “brushed” elbows with one another as they walk past each other in the alley. The girl had previously reported she was approached from behind by a man who grabbed her sweater Wednesday afternoon. The girl then ran off and later reported the incident to her parents and the police.
This happened right after the man parked and exited the van. The girl was wearing headphones and listening to music as she was walking, and the brief physical contact scared her. She admitted that her thoughts and statements to police on the night of the incident were based upon her fear of what she thought could happen.
The van and its driver that were described in this incident are no longer suspected of any criminal misconduct. This incident is no longer considered suspicious or a child abduction attempt. It can be characterized as a misunderstanding.
