A Dauphin County jury convicts Conewago Township Supervisor Jay M. Brandt of theft by unlawful taking. The jury found that Brandt had stolen 16 sheep from a neighbor. Brandt sold the sheep for over $1000 and had the money sent to his sister.

Citing evidence of the defendant’s wealth, the District Attorney’s Office sought a $10,000 fine. The Court imposed a sentence of costs and a $50 fine. The Pennsylvania Constitution bars any person convicted of an infamous crime such as theft from holding public office.

The District Attorney’s Office will file a quo warranto action to remove Brandt from office
