Disabled Veterans in the Commonwealth have 14 new vans to help them obtain the quality care they need. The Disabled American Veterans and Department of Veterans Affairs are partnering with the State of Pennsylvania to provide the transportation. The $336,000 vans are paid for by the state budget. Under the program, volunteer drivers transport sick and disabled vets to a VA medical facility for treatment.
Representative Steve Barrar says, “This was a promise made to them when they joined the service. Our Veterans suffer from so many different ailments that it’s time we be able to get them to the health care center.”
During this past year, the DAV Volunteer drivers provided more than 73,000 rides for veterans.
