A Georgia doctor is facing perjury charges after investigators discovered he lied about his qualifications as a defense expert in multiple DUI cases across Pennsylvania.

According to a news release issued by the Lancaster County District Attorney’s office,  Dr. Joseph Citron, 68, of Atlanta,  was called upon to testify in a DUI related case in Lancaster County in March 2012.

Citron claimed he was an instructor at the Georgia Safety Training Center, training police officers in the area of first responder and Standardized Field Sobriety Tests for approximately 10 years. He testified he was appointed to the Georgia “Drunk Busters” in 2000.

In July of 2013, the Lancaster County District Attorney’s office requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation examine Citron’s affiliation with the programs he claimed to be involved with.  The investigation uncovered that Citron lied about his involvement with both programs.

Citron faces numerous charges including perjury,  false swearing and unsworn falsifications.

Centre, Clinton, Dauphin and Lebanon Counties have also filed charges relating to his false testimony.
