Lebanon County detectives have filed charges against a woman who allegedly left an eight-month-old child in a vehicle in July.
Police said Damaris Manrique, of Johnstown, left the child in a vehicle for over two-and-a-half hours on July 24. The incident occurred on the 300 block of N. 5th street in Lebanon, between the times of 1:45 and 4:30 p.m.
Officials said as a result of being left alone, the child suffered brain damage, blindness, deafness and other medical and physical disabilities.
Dave Arnold, the county’s district attorney, said detectives only recently learned Manrique had returned to Lebanon, which is why it took nearly three months to charge her.
“This is as bad of a case as I have seen since I’ve been here. That I can tell you as a fact,” said Arnold.
When FOX43 stopped by the home where the alleged crimes happened, no one wanted to comment on the case.
The charges against her include aggravated assault, endangering welfare of children and simple assault.
Bail was set at $100,000. Unable to post bail, she was committed to the Lebanon County Prison.
Arnold says “there’s almost no optimism whatsoever at this point” that the baby’s health will improve. The infant is in the custody of the county’s Children and Youth Services.
