Weis Markets is announcing a recall of some of the store’s milk products.
The recall includes Weis Quality Milk (whole, 2 percent, 1 percent and skim milk) with a sell-by date of Dec. 5. Weis Markets’ 1 percent chocolate milk with a sell-by date of Dec. 2 has also been recalled.
A company spokesman released this statement:
“We discovered a one-day equipment failure that prevented us from accurately testing for a class of antibiotics known as Beta-Lactam. We have a stringent policy and do not accept milk when this class of antibiotics is present, since it may cause a reaction in people who are allergic to these antibiotics.
“When we discovered this issue, we immediately reported it to Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture who consulted with the FDA. As a result, we agreed to issue a voluntary recall as a precaution.”
Automated phone calls were made to customers who may have purchased the milk and they can return the milk to the store for a refund.
If shoppers have any questions, please contact the customer hotline at 866-999-9347.
There have not been any reported illnesses with the recall, according to Weis.
