Cumberland County Commissioners vote to adopt its 2014 budget. To close a project $3,084,508 deficit, the new budget calls for a 3% property tax increase. The tax hike equates to an $11.55 increase for the average homeowner or less than $1 a month.

Commissioners also say 55% of the shortfall will be made up in mandatory reductions in overtime, a hiring freeze for new positions, elimination of redundant services and consolidation of some county departments including possible elimination of some services.

The county has also implemented a pilot gain sharing program and will work to replace the County’s current compensation system with a pay for performance system.
