Police in Dauphin County are asking for public help to identify a person of interest in a fraud investigation. It involves several cases where citizens’ debit cards and PINs have used to deposit counterfeit checks into accounts without the account holder’s knowledge. Cash is then withdrawn from those accounts as soon as the funds become legally available but prior to the banks learning that the checks are bogus.
Lower Paxton Township Police released a surveillance photo of a woman seen at a Colonial Park area bank ATM. The woman’s role in the frauds is unknown at this time.
