Palmyra sinkhole victims burglarized

Residents who were forced to leave their Palmyra homes after a sinkhole opened up in October are being targeted by burglars, authorities said.

According to police reports, thieves forced their way into three homes in the 300 block of East Cherry Street sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

All three homeowners found many of their possessions missing. Some of the items taken include tools, china, and video gaming equipment.

Police say the homes have been fenced off and posted for no trespassing due to the sinkholes.

A total of eight homes were evacuated when three sinkholes opened up on Oct. 11. Another sinkhole opened up along South Grant Street just before Thanksgiving.

Anyone with information regarding the burglaries is asked to contact police at 717-838-8189.
