There is still time to get rid of your Christmas tree in an environmentally-friendly way. Anyone looking to dump their tree can do so at the Lancaster County Central Park between dawn and dusk through January 3rd. All trees must be free of decorations, lights, and nails because they will be turned into mulch that will be made available to the public. There is a suggested donation of one dollar per tree to support the park’s tree nursery.
Paul Weiss, parks and recreation administrator says, “Acid loving plants love the mulch that we have available, rhododendrons, azaleas, deciduous conifers. So it’s a great way to recycle your tree and keep it out of the landfill.”
Mulch will be available after January 3rd near the tree drop-off site. It’s free, but you have to bring your own shovel and bag to haul it away. Each year, the park recycles about 1,500 Christmas trees, producing 22 tons of mulch.
