During the New Year’s holiday driving period there were 836 crashes investigated by the Pennsylvania state police. Of those, 146 were injured and one person was killed.
From December 31, 2013 through January 2, 2014, State Police investigated a total of 836 crashes. Of those, 36 were alcohol-related.
Troopers made 220 arrests for driving under the influence and issued 3,013 speeding citations during the holiday period. State Police also cited 361 individuals for failure to wear seatbelts and cited an additional 42 for failure to properly restrain children in child safety seats.
During last year’s three-day New Year’s driving period, one person was killed and 86 were injured in 377 crashes investigated by the State Police. The holiday period began on December 31, 2012 and ended at 11:59 p.m. on January 1, 2012.
These crash numbers cover only those incidents investigated by the State Police and do not include statistics on crashes that were investigated by other law enforcement agencies.
