Tolls on PA Turnpike increased Sunday

You need to dig a little deeper in your wallet when you travel the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Starting today, tolls increased by two-percent for E-Z Pass users and 12-percent for cash paying drivers.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission says the increase was necessary to meet its funding obligation under a 2007 state law.
New revenue from the increase will be used to rebuild portions of the toll road and widen it from four to six lanes.

Why does the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania subsidize EZ-Pass by forcing people to use their service to get reasonable turnpike rates. I tried to find out who actually owns the company and that info is not available. It is not a non-profit organization but when you do web searches on the company you just get turnpike info.

Good question. Perhaps someone who has one can tell us where their bill payments go. I have no use for EZ pass since I only use the TP once or twice a year.
