Temperatures will be brutally cold over the next few days and some communities are opening warming centers to help residents through the deep freeze.

ADAMS COUNTY:

  • Chambersburg: Eugene C. Clark Jr. Community Center, 235 S. Third Street, from 3 p.m. Monday through 11 a.m. Wednesday. The center is open to senior citizens and others at risk for cold-related illnesses.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY:

  • Penn Township: Penn Township Fire Company, 1750 Pine Road, Newville, has been set up as a warming station to help those without power in the area. Cumberland Goodwill EMS is offering transport to the warming station for disabled or wheelchair-bound residents in Dickinson, West Pennsboro and Penn Townships. Contact 717-249-0012 to receive transportation.

DAUPHIN COUNTY:

  • Harrisburg: The YWCA is opening their doors at 1101 Market Street to women and women with children seeking shelter from the cold weather. A single woman or a mother with children who comes to the YWCA between the hours of 8:30pm – 9:30pm will have an opportunity to shower before being offered shelter at the YWCA or the YWCA Safe Haven.
  • Middletown: Middletown Volunteer Fire Department at 10 Adelia Street, from 1 a.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday. For more information contact Tom Foreman, Emergency Management Coordinator at 717-810-7569.
