Former Susquehanna Township High School assistant principal Shawn Sharkey today waived his preliminary hearing.  Sharkey, while assistant principal at the Susquehanna Township High School, allegedly had a sexual relationship with a 16 year old female student at the school.

Sharkey met the girl shortly after he began working at the school in January 2013. His contact with the student escalated into a sexual relationship beginning on February 1, 2013. On multiple occasions from February through March 2013, Sharkey would arrange to pick up the victim in his car and drive to local motels to engage in sexual relations.

By waiving the hearing and agreeing to send his case to the next level of court, Sharkey spared the victim from having to testify at the hearing. The victim and her parents were advised earlier this week that Sharkey intended on waiving the hearing. The case now moves to the Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas for further disposition.

Charges against Sharkey include Institutional Sexual Assault by a School Employee, Corruption of Minors and Unlawful Contact with a Minor.

Separately, the Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office continues its investigation into the Susquehanna School District’s handling of reports concerning Sharkey’s alleged relationship with the student.
