Man carjacks pizza deliveryman; crashes into police cruiser

According to police, a 20 year man carjacked a vehicle from a pizza delivery man in Lititz before crashing it into a police cruiser, This all happening on New Years Day.

Cops say William Gustafson Jr.  approached a pizza delivery man in the 700 block of South Broad Street in Lititz at 12:10 a.m. on January 1. Gustafson put a knife against the driver’s back and demanded money and the car.

The driver handed over the money and ran into a nearby building.

Gustafson then took off in the car. An hour later, police in Columbia tried to stop Gustafson for an unrelated traffic violation. Gustafson fled from the officer and ended up smashing into another Columbia officer’s cruiser.

Police also learned that prior to robbing and carjacking the pizza delivery man, Gustafson broke into a camper in the 500 block of Owl Hill Road in Warwick Township . He tried to light a stove by burning paper towels but was unsuccessful, police said. He stole two screwdrivers, binoculars and left.

Gustafson then forced his way into a shed in the 1st block of West Ridge Road, police say. He tried to steal a bicycle but couldn’t fit it through the broken window. He stole a mountain pie maker and left.

Northern Regional police charged him with burglary and two counts each of criminal trespass, unlawful taking or disposition and criminal mischief.

He is currently in Lancaster County Prison on 100,000 bail.
