Dairy cows from across the state have spent the past week in the barns of the farm show, and so have their handlers; you can often find them sleeping on bales of hay.

They spent Friday morning preparing for the dairy cow competitions, to find out who would be Supreme Champion.

“I love banners which would be, you get to have the best cow in the barn,” says Jared Wetzel, 18, of Manheim, Lancaster County. “Banners are what you want to bring home from cow shows.”

Some of the handlers have behind the scenes secrets for working with their cows.

“I always say, when I milk at home, that the cows make more milk when I’m milking, cause I’m singing,” says Troy Longenecker, of Annville, Lebanon County.

The farm show is just the beginning of higher levels of competition throughout the year, all in pursuit of making a champion.
