When you upgrade your home computer or laptop, what do you do with your old one?
A local ministry is accepting the used electronics and recycling them.
Mission Central, along with Computer Ministry, held their “Recycle Your Electronics Day” in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County on Saturday.
The organization collected all sorts of items from computers to cell phones. All of the items will be cleaned out and refurbished, and many sent to people who need the equipment in countries in Africa and Central America.
Organizers say the collection was one of their best days since they started the event.
Shawn Kincaid, President of the Board of Directors of the Computer Ministry says, “There’s a steady stream of cars; usually we have a break, today it’s not been like that. We opened doors just before 9:00 a.m. and its been steady since. Usually we have time to stop and clean up and organize, but we haven’t even had that today. We’ve got a good group today, we’ve got a good group of volunteers, without them we’d be hurting today.”
Computer Ministry is a certified recycler; the items collected do not go into a landfill.
The organization accepts used electronics three times a week at its location at 5 Pleasant View Drive in Mechanicsburg.
You can drop your items off Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
