Timeless Barbershop in Swatara Township, Dauphin County is offering hair cuts for kids with special needs, on the third Sunday of every month from 5 to 7 p.m.
It’s after hours for a less noisy, crowded environment. Many of their clients have autism and other sensory issues.
“They typically don’t like to sit,” says co-owner Julie Hammer. “They move around a lot, they can scream, they can make noise, we close the shop we keep it open just for those families. So they can scream all they want and move all they want.”
Rich and Julie Hammer decided to start the tradition in March. Their daughter was diagnosed on the spectrum, so they understand the challenges kids and their parents worry about.
“We want to be patient, we want to help the families and just one small thing in life, if we can help with, we’ll help,” says Hammer.
She says they can accommodate clients with special needs at other times as well. You can call the shop at (717) 920-9595.
