A tanker loaded with chemicals exploded at the Knouse Foods plant at 1505 Orrtanna Road this morning, leading to local residents being ordered to stay inside their homes and a few firefighters and workers being taken to the hospital. Investigators from the Department of Environmental Protection are currently at the scene. The chemical, initially thought to be a fertilizer, was a potential respiratory irritant, according to the Adams County Department of Emergency Services. Local residents were advised to remain indoors for several hours. That advisory has since been lifted.

A shelter in place order has been issued for people living within a half mile of the Knouse Foods plant at 1505 Orrtanna Road.
Emergency crews were called the Adams County plant this morning after a tractor-trailer carrying chemicals caught fire.
Residents living near the plant are being told to stay inside their homes. This is a precautionary measure because of a tractor trailer fire involving insulation material which is a potential respiratory irritant, according to the Adams County Department of Emergency Services. .
A hazmat team is on the scene.
