Police found two people dead inside a home in York Township early this morning after a four hour standoff. They are now confirming it was a murder-suicide.
It started around 11:30pm on Tuesday as a domestic dispute. Someone reported hearing gun shots on the 500 block of South Franklin Street.
When officers got there, someone fired at them from inside the home.
Neighbors were evacuated.
At about 4 am the Quick Response Team entered the home. There they found two people, Jessica Mellinger and John R. Snyder, both 24, dead of gunshot wounds. According to the York County Coroner Pam Gay, Mellinger died of a gunshot wound to the chest. Snyder shot himself in the head.
Neighbors have since been allowed to return to their homes. South Franklin Street was closed for several hours.
