Human trafficking awareness day

The Lancaster Theological Seminary hosted a human trafficking awareness day in Lancaster on Friday.  The White House has designated January 2014 as National Slavery and Human Trafficking prevention month.  According to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center, Pennsylvania has a high rate of human trafficking reports.

Dawn Harmon, organizer and seminary student says, “And that’s going on right here in this community, we need to make sure that everybody knows that and are vigilante in fighting against it is right here in our backyard.”

Lancaster, York, Harrisburg, and Reading report about 55 cases of human trafficking every years, that’s about more than 10 percent of the total calls statewide.
