A 25-year-old man was arrested Thursday after he tried to kidnap his wife at gunpoint in Lancaster City, police said.

Luis Alberto Castro, of Lebanon, is charged with attempted kidnapping, terroristic threats, reckless endangerment, and persons not to possess firearms.

Officers were dispatched to a business in the 200 block of North Duke Street for a report of a disturbance just after 10 a.m. on Thursday.

According to police reports, Castro went to the business to confront his 27-year-old wife who was an employee there. Police said when Castro’s initial attempts to get inside the building were thwarted–he pulled out a gun,  pointed it at a female employee and demanded she open the door or “she was going to die too.”

During the confrontation Castro’s wife attempted to sneak out the back door–but was caught by Castro who went around to the rear of the building.

Officers arrived at the scene and spotted Castro attempting to push his wife into an SUV at gunpoint.

Police ordered Castro to drop the gun and he tossed it into the SUV. He then released the woman and was taken into custody, police said.

The victim was not injured.

Castro was arrested and taken to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Investigators say Castro sent numerous threatening text messages to the victim prior to this incident.
