Middle school teams from Central Pennsylvania competed Saturday in the Future City competition.  The teams made up of sixth, seventh, and eighth graders displayed their ideas of the ideal future city at the Regional finals at the State Museum in Harrisburg.  Students created the tabletop masterpieces for the theme, Tomorrow’s Transit, Design a way to move people in and around the city.  Each team then had to present and defend their vision to a panel of judges.

Bill Sutton, Future City Central PA founder says, “We spark an interest in the kids, in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math, the stem initiatives and give them that extra boost to follow their dreams and get into it.  We want them to think about what is possible, have a vision, have a dream and hopefully follow that and bring that to the city.”

Ethan Verg, participant says, “It’s pretty fun to think about all these new ideas and ways to make our world better.  And to think they might be actually be used one day would be pretty awesome.”

The winning team will now head to Washington, D.C. next month to compete against teams from 36 other regions.
