Molly’s Place Rescue in Hampden Township, Cumberland County says they will continue to take in animals even while their license is revoked.
The animal shelter remains open to the public. On Sunday, visitors played with the animals, including several puppies rescued from high-kill shelters down south.
The shelter’s license was revoked in early November after it was cited. They’re appealing the two pending citations, which deal with a missing health certificate and deed of sale for two dogs.
Because they stayed open, the owner, Lori Johnston, is now facing more than 100 misdemeanor criminal counts. They correspond to dogs they’ve taken in and animals adopted out during that time.
None of the pending charges or citations have to do with the conditions or treatment of the animals.
“It’s probably the most important time that we’ve ever asked for your support, but it’s not for anything tangible or monetary in nature,” says Tom Sabers, an employee of the shelter. “It’s just for friendship, your support, talk to your state representatives and have them look into this and help us get it resolved.”
