Local police are alerted to look for a type of ‘killer heroin’ that’s caused 22 deaths in the Pittsburgh area.

York Area Regional Police says it may already be in use in central PA because heroin is a big drug problem in the area. Police say it’s cheaper than cocaine and more of an issue here than meth, which is more prevalent in other parts of the country.

The drug is heroin mixed with fentanyl, a powerful drug used to treat cancer patients.

“You never really know what you`re getting,” says Antoinette Sacco, CEO of Colonial House Inc. “When you mix it, your respiratory system, it just shuts everything down when you have too much.”

Police say York sees so much drug activity because of its central location to nearby cities. Philadelphia is the main supply line of drugs to the area.
