Digital parking meters going up in Harrisburg

If you’re in Harrisburg, you’ll see the new digital parking meters, but Standard Parking told business owners they will not enforce the new doubled rates until they go live.

The meters are currently covered with plastic bags. More than 100 of them are being installed.

Standard Parking is also changing the information on the old meters to reflect the new higher rates. You will also have to pay for parking for extended hours and on Saturdays.

“This is going to cut down on our business probably 50 percent, definitely on Saturdays,” says Don Hudosn, manager at Hoernung’s True Value. “As you can see today, everyone thinks the meters have kicked in already and there’s hardly any traffic down here, already.”

The new digital meters will accept credit cards and notify drivers through a phone app when their meter is about to expire.
