The more we admonish the more they ignore common sense. Those who had a loaded weapon, cash and other valuables in cars, locked or unlocked, go to the closest mirror, look straight into it and repeat, "
I am an idiot" 100 times.

Why are Investigators "particularly concerned over these thefts due to the brazenness of the crimes"? What is so brazen about opening unlocked vehicles in the middle of the night on a secluded private lane?
What would be brazen is jacking open a locked vehicle on a city street in the daylight. This was ignorance of people who think their private little niche is immune to trespass and crime and a modicum of intelligence of a criminal who took advantage of that ignorance.
