Man assaults police officer during arrest

A McAlisterville man faces assault charges after he allegedly assaults a police officer.

State police responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex located at 138 Westfall Street in Fayette Township. They found 37-year-old Francis Swartzel intoxicated and yelling profane language.

Officers arrested Swartzel for disorderly conduct. While being transported to Mifflin County Correctional Facility, Swartzel spit blood and kicked the officer several times, police said.

The trooper did receive minor injury and was treated at Lewistown Hospital.

Swartzel is now being charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, simple assault, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.

He is in Mifflin County Prison onĀ  $10,000 bail.
