LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (PIX11/WHNT) – An Alabama high school student is not LOL’ing Friday after the school found out about her Instagram selfie taken with a dead body while on a biology field trip.

The Clements High School senior was visiting a lab at the University of Alabama when she took the photo, which shows her smiling next to a cadaver from the school’s anatomical donor program.  The sheet was pulled back from the body, which, according to WHNT, was strictly against the rules — as was any use of a recording device, including cell phones.

The selfie, which was reportedly posted to a private Instagram account, found its way into the hands of administrators after a classmate took a screen grab and later showed it to her older sister, who called the school.

In a statement from the school district, Director of Public Relations and Technology Karen Tucker said:

“We are speaking to the University of Alabama Birmingham, they are understandably upset with this incident and we want to preserve our relationship with the university.”

Tucker added that the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office is involved in the case, and  officers questioned students earlier this week.

The University of Alabama released the following statement on the offending selfie:

“A student was made explicitly aware of these policies and breached them. This kind of disrespect is unacceptable and very disappointing. We will review our processes to ensure this does not happen again.”

PIX11 reached out to Clements High School, but a representative from the principal’s office would not comment on the incident.
