The Hershey bears hockey team proving that they are about more than just bone crushing hits on the ice, hosting a Bone Marrow Donor Drive.

The organization and its A-H-L affiliate, The Washington Capitols, teamed up with Delete Blood Cancer at the Giant Center in Dauphin County. During the bone marrow drive, people had the inside of their mouths swabbed and filled out a registration form to become a potential future donor. The Bears are especially close to the cause as the lost a player to Leukemia in 1997.

“Once you realize that you are saving somebody’s life it makes the little bit of pain you are dealing with a little less of a problem point.” Tom Mara, president of Hershey Bears Booster Club.

If you were unable to attend today’s drive and would like to learn more about bone marrow transplants and how to become a donor, you can go to www.DeleteBloodCancer.org
