If you’re a hopeless romantic, then this is a story for you — just in time for Valentine’s Day.
It’s about finding love in a place you’d never expect.
That’s what one local couple says happened to them 17 years after they first met.
Sacha and Michael Taylor reconnected on Facebook after some devastating hardships.
It’s a love story that defines fate, and no Sacha and Michael Taylor aren’t married.
They just happen to have the same last name.
They first met through their mothers – while still in the womb.
“Our parents actually knew all about us before we did,” says Michael Taylor.
But if you don’t count that – fast forward to Freshman year at Dulaney High School.
“It was always the joke in homeroom that we would get married one day and we wouldn’t have to change my last name,” says Sacha Taylor.
“I always thought that she was too good for me and too good to be together so I never thought anything of it,” says Michael.
“We would talk about him every now (me and my sister) and then (so he was always in the back of your mind?) Yes, always,” says Sacha.
Still, they went their separate ways, but life only got harder for the both of them.
“I got married right when I turned 18 to a man that was extremely abusive,” says Sacha.
She soon realized that wasn’t the way she wanted to live her life and one day she says it just “clicked”… Sacha had enough.
“I had hit rock bottom quite a few times, everybody’s bottom is different I don’t know what was different about time but I was in Maryland I was at work and I just knew if I went home that day I wasn’t going to live for the rest of the day,” says Sacha.
So she picked up her life, including her two children, and quickly fled to a domestic violence shelter in York.
All while this was going on, Michael was dealing with a similar crisis.
At just 30 years old, his wife depressed and destructive, took her own life.
“I woke up one morning and found her dead and thought to myself, now what?” says Michael.
Both asking themselves the same question, they picked up where they could and tried to move forward.
Sacha got her license, college education, and landed a job.
While Michael reconnected with old friends on Facebook…and came across Sacha.
“When I saw his name pop up…” says Sacha.
They exchanged messages and agreed to meet up.
She says she’ll never forget the chills she felt when she saw him again for the first time in 17 years.
“We met at my house and as soon as he got out of his car and started walking toward me I knew, right then, this is the man I’m going to marry and spend the rest of my life with there was no doubt in my mind, I knew it,” says Sacha.
“It felt like you know the butterflies in the stomach and everything and just knew that she was the one,” says Michael.
Their first date was at the Sachs bridge in Gettysburg where they fell in love again —
“It`ll come find you when you least expect it,” says Sacha.
— And where they hope to someday marry when they have the money.
They want a nice quiet ceremony surrounded by family, friends, and their 6 month old son named after his father.
“That would just be like a dream come true wouldn’t it?” “That would mean the world,” says Sacha and Michael.
While their story doesn’t follow the script of a fairytale, the couple says they know this was planned from the beginning… it’s their serendipity.
“We may not be rich with money but we are completely rich with love and that is all that matters in the end,” says Sacha.
