The Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office wants to help keep the street lights in Harrisburg.  District Attorney Ed Marsico is donating $25,000 to the city for street light replacement and repair. The initiative is part of the DA’s 2014 crime prevention projects.

“Dark streets invite criminal behavior, and make for unsafe driving and walking conditions. Fixing broken street lights is a first step in preventing crime and brightening the image of Harrisburg,” said Marsico.

Funds for crime prevention projects come from revenues from table games at the Hollywood Casino in East Hanover Township. Money from the fund have previously been used for saturation police details and surveillance cameras in Harrisburg.

The DA credits Dauphin County Commission George Hartwick, III, with the idea of using some of that revenue to replace street lights.

The DA says he is looking forward to working with Mayor Eric Papenfuse and Chief Tom Carter on other crime prevention projects in the city.
