Some Millersville University music students are getting ready for what could easily be the best class assignment ever.

They will share the stage with the classic rock band “Foreigner,” before a sold-out crowd Friday.

The students, majoring in Music Business Technology (MBT), will help sing the chorus of one of the band’s most memorable hits, “I want to know what love is.”

“I definitely grew up on that kind of music, like Styx and Queen, all the 70’s – 80’s bands,” said Logan Ressler, a MU senior. “So hearing that I could sing with Foreigner was definitely exciting for me.”

“I’ve been a fan ever since 1980, so it goes back a few years,” said Dr. Barry Atticks, director of music business technology at Millersville.

When Atticks found out that the band performed with school choirs through a Grammy Foundation program, he jumped at the chance to give his students that experience.

“We’re trying to make sure that we’re giving them as many experiences as possible outside of the classroom and meeting a classic band like that, learning from people who are actually in the field, touring 200-250 dates at year, we felt it was very important to do that,” he said.

Danielle Bertucci, a junior, is actually more excited about the pre-performance clinic with band members.

“We’re all really grateful, all the students all around, and it’s just a really great opportunity for us to have,” she said.

Either way, it’s sure to be an unforgettable experience few people can say they’ve had.

Another group of students in the Millersville Chorale will be the opening act at the “Foreigner” show, singing a-capella arrangements of classic rock hits.
