The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) advises motorists of the potential for ponding water on the roadway Thursday night and Friday this week. Heavy rain and warmer temperatures are expected to cause ponding on the roadway in addition to localized flooding.

Pa. Turnpike maintenance crews will continue their work to clear storm drains along the roadway, but standing water in the travel lanes could still occur. Motorists should drive with caution and be aware of roadway conditions. If you see standing water, safely change lanes to avoid it or decelerate before driving through it. (Avoid applying brakes when driving in standing water; instead, take your foot off the accelerator.)

In addition, temperatures are expected to dip below freezing in the overnight hours, which could cause wet pavement to ice over. Crews will be monitoring the roadway and treating as necessary. Motorists should watch out for slick and icy conditions and drive accordingly.

Turnpike travelers can always get up-to-the-minute weather conditions and traffic advisories by calling 866-976-TRIP (8747) or visiting the live Travel Conditions Map online at www.paturnpike.com/webmap. The Turnpike’s smartphone app, TRIP Talk, streams audio advisories to iPhone and Droid users so they can keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
