A Lancaster man faces vehicular homicide and related charges after a 24-year-old woman died Saturday as a result of his reckless driving, police said.

According to police reports, the crash happened around 1:20 p.m. along the 1300 block of  East King Street in Lancaster Township and involved three vehicles. Police say Carlos R. Garcia, 33, was headed west on East King Street when he rear-ended a vehicle driven by Cat Hoang, 70, of Lancaster. The impact of the crash sent Garcia’s vehicle careening into the eastbound lane where he collided with a vehicle driven by a 47-year-old Lancaster Township woman.

The woman and her 24-year-old daughter, who was a passenger in the vehicle,  were taken to Lancaster General Hospital with serious injuries. The 24-year-old unidentified woman later died.

Garcia and his 7-year-old passenger were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Hoang was not injured in the crash.

Police arrested Garcia at the hospital and charged him with homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault, accidents involving death while not properly licensed, endangering the welfare of children, reckless driving and driving while under suspension (DUI related).

Authorities believe Garcia may have been driving under the influence when the crash happened. Additional charges are pending the results of his blood alcohol testing.

A witness told police that Garcia’s vehicle was weaving in and out of traffic at high speeds just before the crash.

He was taken to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 6.
