PennDOT Engineering District 8 recently set work zone signs announcing that Feb. 27 work begins on a project to repair the concrete bridge on Route 324 over Pequea Creek in the Village of Martic Forge, Lancaster County. Route 324, known locally as Pequea Boulevard, averages 750 vehicles traveled daily.
The $511,000 contract to rehabilitate the existing structure was awarded to Clearwater Construction, Inc., of Mercer, Mercer County, and includes new strip seals and expansion joints, concrete spall repair, a new 1.5-inch latex-modified concrete overlay, replacement of the concrete jacket around the pier cap, and new traffic lines.
PennDOT advises travelers that starting Feb. 27, this bridge will be closed to through traffic for up to 90 days. Until then, a detour which follows River Road and Bridge Valley Road will be in place. Work under this construction contract is scheduled to be completed by the end of May at which point the bridge will be reopened to traffic.
The existing two-span pre-stressed concrete I-beam bridge that carries Route 324 over Pequea Creek at the Martic and Conestoga township line was built in 1970 and is considered structurally deficient.
