Harrisburg Police release names of property owners with most code violations

The Harrisburg Police Department released names of 11 property owners with the most active warrants and citations against them. One of the property owners has received more than 30 citations since 2005.

The city has deemed one property in the 2100 block of Green Street unfit for people to live in. The owners of the properties could face jail time if they fail to address the warrants issued in their name.

Police say routine inspections and complaints by neighbors led to the citations being issued. One of the residents who lives nearby the house on Green Street said “Summer and Spring is coming soon and kids are going to be out playing. And they like to play in the alley way, play football and I just want to make sure it’s safe and okay for them to play there. I hope nothing toxic or toxin is in there.”

The Director of Communications for the City of Harrisburg, Joyce Davis, said “This is a question of peoples lives. Peoples lives are in danger when they are living next to properties that could collapse on them. And we cannot as a city afford to let this issue go any longer. For years nothing was done.”

Davis said the Harrisburg Police Department will start doing random inspections to try and crack down on the code violations.
