Last summer, police pulled over Penn Twp., Perry County police chief Richard Pickles and cited him for DUI. Now a court has handed down his punishment and the Board of Supervisors is deciding what, if anything to do next.
Pickles was sentenced on Feb. 6 to attend the Dauphin County Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program, complete 12 months probation, perform 40 hours of community service, attend highway safety school and pay related fines.
Pickles is represented by the township solicitor. The Board of Supervisors says they didn’t know anything about the Feb. 6 hearing or sentencing. one supervisor says he thinks this is a conflict of interest.
“The supervisors should have an executive meeting where we sit down and discuss our options and to be able to determine what is the best course and interest of our township and of Chief Pickles,” says supervisor Brian Peters.
A number of visitors Wednesday night raised questions about the issue but the chairman said he didn’t want to discuss it further until he knew more.
The town solicitor met with an outside attorney to discuss what, if anything, will change with Pickles’ status.
“It can be seen whether there’s any action we need to take in any way shape or form,” says chairman Henry Holman.
