School suspect terrorized school over bullying

Police say the suspect who terrorized a Phineas Davis Elementary School in York was arrested at the school the day before.

Police now say the suspect, Eric Schelmety, is a the parent of a student and he was angry about a bullying issue that wasn’t addressed by the school. He told police he wanted to scare them to make a point.

He was at the school on Wednesday, when he became irate and threatened to murder and shoot at people inside. He was arrested but as soon as he was out on bail on Thursday, he went back to the school.

Police say once he got into the lobby he began smashing windows and breaking things. He threw a vacuum cleaner through the office window, where staff and students took cover.

He also threatened to kill students and to “pay a skinhead” to hang” the principal.

Parents say they felt the school did a good job with security measures. York City Police parked outside of the school Friday to make students feel safe.

“They see another kid’s crying, so it was scary for them too, but teachers did a great job,” says parent Yarim Oceguera.

Schelmety is facing numerous charges including terroristic threats, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, and vandalism. He’s being held at York County Prison.
